CEBU, Philippines - Two police officers assigned at the Tabuelan Police Station are in hot water after reports reached Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) Director Erson Digal that they are allegedly using illegal drugs.
Digal said that both cops were subjected to a drug test to verify the reports. If proven true, the policemen will be dismissed from service.
“Any policemen nga magamitan ug drugs ipa-random drug test jud na dayon aron masuta kung tinuod ba,” he said.
A local barangay official from Tabuelan informed the personnel of the Provincial Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operation Task Group (PAIDSOTG) that the two policemen have been spotted entering a drug den.
The cops had reportedly denied this.
Digal said that right after he received the report on Tuesday, he immediately directed Tabuelan Police Chief Almirante Bacayo to disarm the police officers concerned.
Both cops were taken to the Philippine National Police (PNP) Crime Laboratory at Camp Sotero Cabahug.
“Blind ang police officers ug ang hepe nganong gipatawag nako which is maayo aron dili kahibawo,” Digal said.
Digal requested not to name the police officers until the drug test results are released.
Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 Director Ager Ontog has directed a tighter campaign on illegal drugs involving cops to prevent them from acting as protectors of drug pushers and drug couriers.
Police Senior Inspector Bacayo refused to say anything about the report..
“So far no comment ko about them kay lisod if mo-pin down ko,” Bacayo told The FREEMAN on the phone.
Digal is warning all police officers in the province who are using illegal drugs of dismissal from service. (FREEMAN)
