Stolen motorcycles found in junk shop
CEBU, Philippines - A junk shop owner was arrested after several motorcycles reported as stolen were found in his shop yesterday morning in Barangay Tangke, Talisay City.
Teofilo Daitol, 56, was arrested by personnel of the Theft and Robbery Section and the City Intelligence Branch of the Cebu City Police Office who came to check following reports he was dealing in stolen motorcycles and motorcycle parts.
Chief Insp. Bonifacio Garciano, TRS chief, said they received a report from one of the victims of carnapping that he spotted his motorcycle in the said junk shop.
Garciano said they then conducted surveillance on the junk shop and went there at 5 a.m. yesterday to verify.
Daitol was not able to present the documents for seven motorcycles found inside the shop, nor did he have a permit to run a junk shop, the police official said.
Garciano said two of the seven motorcycles were confirmed stolen and were claimed by their owners yesterday.
In an interview, the suspect said the motorcycles were only pawned to his shop by unidentified men. He did not bother to ask for any official receipt from the men.
“Kay nagtuo man ko na isuyop lang nila ba kay mulabay mga tulo ka-adlaw ila na man sad lukaton. P1,000 akong prenda nila then ila lukaton og P1,500,” the suspect said. – Niña G. Sumacot/BRP (THE FREEMAN)
