Pregnant woman, man killed in bike crash
CEBU, Philippines - Two persons, one of them a pregnant woman, died when they figured in separate motorcycle accidents in Cebu province on Wednesday and yesterday.
In Dalaguete, Marites Amamangpang, 30, who was allegedly five months pregnant, was declared dead on arrival at Dr. Alfonso Alcantara Memorial Hospital due to serious head injuries after a delivery van rammed the motorcycle she was riding yesterday morning.
Glicerio Arantar, 62, the driver of the motorcycle was also rushed in the same hospital and is already out of danger.
PO1 Cielito Suerte of Dalaguete Police Station said the Ramstar motorcycle bearing plate number 3113-GR, driven by Arantar, was traveling on the right lane bound for Cebu City.
A Mitsubishi delivery van owned by Chooks To Go bearing plate numbers UTA 785, driven by Ranulfo Mayormita Jr., 39, a resident of Punta Rizal St., Lapu-Lapu City was traveling on the same lane following a tricycle.
While speeding, Mayormita allegedly tried to overtake the tricycle ahead of him, but failed to evade the motorcycle which was about to make a left turn.
Because of the impact, the motorcycle was thrown to the ground causing the head of Amamangpang to hit the pavement while Arantar sustained serious injuries in different parts of his body.
Police said Amamangpang, a resident of Cebu City, was on her way to visit her grandmother when the accident happened.
Residents rushed the victims to the hospital but Amamangpang was declared dead on arrival, while Mayormita voluntarily surrendered to the responding police officers. He is now detained at Dalaguete Police Station’s detention cell waiting for appropriate charges to be filed against him.
Meanwhile, a 41-year-old man was also killed after his motorcycle hit another motorcycle parked on the roadside in Barangay Cogon, Dumanjug town on Wednesday afternoon.
The victim, Flabiano Camilo, 41, resident of Barangay Kabalaasnan was allegedly driving an XRM motorcycle without plate number and was traveling along the national highway when he suddenly lose control of his vehicle and hit a Rusi motorcycle parked on the roadside.
Camilo was allegedly drunk and was driving on a high speed when he hit the other motorcycle.
Residents rushed him to Barili District Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician. (FREEMAN)
