Uncle to bring home cop who died of suicide

- Niña G. Sumacot-Abenoja -

CEBU, Philippines - The rookie policeman who allegedly committed suicide Monday will be sent home today to San Carlos City in Negros Oriental.

PO1 Erman Yap’s wake was transferred to St. Ignatius Chapel at the Police Regional Office-7 headquarters yesterday for one night vigil before he will be transported to Negros Oriental where he will be buried.

Lester Wee, Yap’s uncle, arranged for the transportation because the policeman’s wife could not come. Yap’s wife is having difficulty traveling because she is pregnant of their third child.

After the burial, however, the wife is expected to come to Cebu to get her husband’s things from the Scene of the Crime Operatives and to help in the investigation of the case.

Homicide investigators already established that the case was a suicide incident because of the note left by Yap. Although it was not yet clear what prompted Yap to kill himself.

There were however reports that it could be because of marital and financial problems.

Yap left a suicide note asking for forgiveness from his family, wife and children, but he did not say why he was doing it.

Yap’s land lady Elenita Ulgasan told police investigators that the victim confided to her last September of his problem with his wife. The policeman reportedly said that he will commit suicide if his wife leaves him.

But Wee said, Yap’s wife told him that they did not quarrel on the day the policeman shoot himself.

Yap’s wife was also clueless why his husband committed suicide. – (FREEMAN)
