Pregnant woman killed in accident

CEBU, Philippines - A woman who was six months pregnant was killed while three others were injured when a motorcycle sideswept a tricycle before it hit and rammed a motorcycle along the National Highway of barangay Flores, Catmon on Tuesday morning.

The victims were Isagani Pacana, 41, a resident of barangay Poblacion, Sogod who suffered injuries and backrider Jesan Daitol, 23 who sustained a major head injury and was declared dead on arrival at the Juan Dosado Memorial District Hospital in Sogod where they were taken.

The two were onboard a Honda motorcycle bearing plate number OV 9619 driven by Pacana. They were heading south when they suddenly swerved right and tried to overtake the tricycle bearing plate number GZ 7665 driven by Roque Truz, 39, a resident of barangay Macaas. Truz was traveling on the same lane. Pacana was allegedly traveling on a high speed and when he tried to overtake he accidentally hit the left elbow of Truz. He lost control and moved in a zigzag direction before they fell on the road.

They were hit and rammed by another Honda motorcycle bearing plate number IM 6668 driven by Edwin Cuizon, 28, a resident of barangay Liki, Sogod. He was traveling on the opposite lane.

Cuizon tried to evade the motorcycle and slammed at a metal fence along the sidewalk. The victims were slammed on the road, with Daitol’s head hitting the concrete road.

Catmon investigator SPO3 Asisclo Boto told The FREEMAN that Pacana was not able to put brakes right away because of the heavy rain. “Tungod sa kakusog sa ilang dagan, bisan siguro maka-brake to sila ma-slide gihapon to ilang motor,” Boto said.

Truz sustained a minor injury in his left elbow but he immediately assisted the victims and called for police assistance.

Truz and Cuizon were taken to the Rural Health Unit. — (FREEMAN)
