Program for children with cancer launched

- Joey Cindy M. Semblante -

CEBU, Philippines - There’s now a bigger hope for children with cancer.

The Kapwa Ko Mahal ko Foundation, Inc.-Cebu and the Department of Education launched a program called the “Kanser Skwela” for children with cancer last Tuesday.

The program involved orientation of mobile teachers and other volunteers who will serve as mentors for children afflicted with the disease.

Dr. Ma. Suga Dioko and psychologist Emmanuel Hernani, speaker during the event, talked about the nature of cancer and how to deal with children afflicted with it.

Cebu City Councilor Margot Osmeña, the foundation’s president, said she is eyeing for the support of local government for the project.

The program will provide alternative education to children who have never been to school and those who quit school.

These children will no longer have to travel from home to school but will instead be visited by mobile teachers. The program aims to start this month.

Beneficiaries of the program are children with cancer aged 2 to 16 years old under the “Pangga-a Sab Ko” project.

Eleven of these children are from Cebu City, four from the chartered cities of Cebu, five from the province, another five from Bohol and three from Biliran and Mindanao. — (FREEMAN)
