CEBU, Philippines - A 60-year-old woman died after she was hit and ran over by an Isuzu Elf truck while crossing along the national highway of barangay Lipata, Minglanilla Wednesday evening.
Francisca Fabroa, 60, a resident of barangay San Isidro, San Fernando suffered from a major head injury and bruises after she was hit and ran over by the vehicle. She was rushed to Minglanilla District Hospital but did not make it alive.
Jaime Gimarangan, 55, a resident of sitio Baas, barangay Pagsabungan, Mandaue City, voluntarily gave himself up to the police officers.
The truck bearing plate number RFM-148 he was driving was bound for Cebu City from southern Cebu when he hit the victim who was crossing the street.
According to PO1 Abelardo Biton of the Minglanilla Police Station, Fabroa was standing at the center of the road when she was hit by the vehicle.
“Gikan siya nagpalit og sud-an unya wa siya kalabang dayon kay daghan pag sakyanan, kusog sad ang uwan ato,” Biton told The FREEMAN. (She just bought food and was not able to cross immediately because of the volume of vehicles. It was also raining hard.)
Fabroa was not able to see the vehicles coming behind her because of her umbrella. She suddenly stepped back. Biton said that Fabroa fell on the ground causing head injury. The truck also ran over her body.
The owner of the truck, Leonardo Geraldez Jr., assured he will shoulder the burial expenses of the victim. (FREEMAN NEWS)
