Man stabbed by wife; woman slain

-

CEBU, Philippines - A pregnant woman reportedly stabbed her husband during an argument over his spending part of the money he won in a numbers game on drinking in Barangay Sawang Calero, Cebu City Tuesday night.

Ernesto Israel, 38, sustained wounds to his head and chest when his wife, Oronata, 37, stabbed him. Oronata is seven months pregnant of their fourth child.

The victim told police that he was drinking with some of his friends inside his house around 11 p.m. when he and his wife began arguing over the money he won in Swertres.

Prior to the incident, Ernesto handed over P3,000 to his wife after claiming his P4,500 cash prize. He kept with him the remaining P1,500 to buy woods for their house but spent part of it on a drinking binge with his friends. This irked the suspect.

In the middle of the argument, the suspect took a knife and stabbed the victim in his head and left chest.

He was rushed by his friends to the Cebu City Medical Center while the suspect immediately fled.

Meanwhile, a 53-year-old woman was found dead with seven stab wounds in her residence at sitio Simborio, Barangay Tayud, Liloan Tuesday evening.

Asteria Pepito was lying lifeless at the back door of her house with stab wounds believed to be from an ice pick or a screw driver.

Liloan Police Investigator SPO2 Marcelino Servilla told The Freeman that a certain Annie Nuñez, a relative and neighbor of Pepito, discovered the victim’s body about 6:45 p.m. and immediately sought for police assistance.

Servilla said that when they checked the victim’s body, they found seven stab wounds in different parts of his body.

“Murag agi sa pointed object ang samad but walay dugo nga nakagawas murag didto sa sud iyang lawas ang impact,” Servilla said.

Policemen discovered that the victim’s two cellular phones and part of P80,000 she earned from selling her two cattle last month were missing. Of the amount, only P56,000 was recovered.

Nuñez said that before the incident, she saw Pepito talking with a certain Gilbert Cebrada, a laborer who works at the victim’s barn. But when she came back, she said she saw Pepito lying lifeless at the back door.

“Basin gi-monitor ni iyang lihok nga moadto sa iyang hayopan sa luyo pero dili pa ta kasiguro ana kay wa tay ebidensya,” Servilla said.

Cebrada denied involvement in the crime during police questioning.

“We do not have eye witness and we just rely on the circumstantial evidences that we gathered,” Servilla said.

The victim’s body was brought to Cosmopolitan Funeral Homes in Mandaue City where it was be subjected to an autopsy. – Niña G. Sumacot and Ria Mae Y. Booc/LPM (THE FREEMAN)
