Homeowners give up on Joavan

-

CEBU, Philippines - Since they can not stop Talisay City Mayor Socrates Fernandez’s son, Joavan, from entering the subdivision, homeowners are now leaving the matter to the Sta. Lucia Realty Development Inc. (SLRDI).

Supt. Henry Biñas said last week he received a call from Priscilla Capul, a member of Pacific Heights Homeowners Association (PHHA), to tell him that homeowners have surrendered their case to the developer.

Capul’s call came after rocks they placed to supposedly block the mayor’s son from entering the subdivision premises were removed by Candulawan barangay officials to let Mayor Socrates Fernandez in.

Fernandez went to the subdivision reportedly to preside over an oath-taking ceremony.

Biñas said the rocks were lined up meters away from Fernandez’s house of prayer to stop Joavan from entering Pacific Heights.

The mayor’s house of prayer can be accessed from the main gate of Vista Grande subdivision in Bulacao and the gate of Pacific Heights in Candulawan area.

The two subdivisions, both are owned by Sta. Lucia, are adjacent to one another.

But according to the homeowners, because it is more accessible, Joavan, who usually drives a sports utility vehicle at “top speed,” always uses the Bulacao gate, hence, at the end part of the Vista Grande, the road there was blocked with rocks.

They did it after Joavan was sighted again inside the house of prayer with his friends.

Capul said after the Dec. 15 incident, when Joavan allegedly fired at a 19-year-old Vista Grande clubhouse attendant, the mayor’s son was seen again in his father’s property from December 23 onwards.

Capul’s house is about 10 meters away from Fernandez’s house of prayer.

Capul said that like Vista Grande homeowners they also want Joavan banned from the subdivision because of his “bad behavior.”

She said the humps inside the Pacific Heights were specially constructed to force Joavan to drive slowly as he is usually known to run his car noisily even in the wee hours of the morning.

What also happened in Dec. 15 has frightened homeowners, said Capul.

She said Joavan is still on the loose and armed.

Joavan wasn’t around when police raided the house of prayer last Dec 16.     Recovered from that raid were drug paraphernalia, with which Joavan is now being charged, on top of his robbery with attempted homicide case in relation to that shooting incident. (FREEMAN)
