Two men stabbed in Lapu-Lapu

CEBU, Philippines - Two men were allegedly stabbed by a relative while having a drink Sunday in sitio Langub, barangay Poblacion, Lapu-Lapu City.

Joseph Estores Pinote, 21, single, and Leonar Pataluna, 27, married, were taken to the Lapu-Lapu City Hospital.

The Homicide Section of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office showed that at around 8 p.m. June Estores Castillon and Pinote suddenly exchanged unsavory words which led to a fistfight.

Jomar Estores Castillon, Pinote's cousin, intervened and struck Pinote with a bladed weapon on the back and right leg.

Pataluna, who tried to pacify the cousins, was also allegedly stabbed on the back by Jomar Castillon.

Jomar Castillon fled after the incident.

His brother June Estores Castillon went to the Lapu-lapu City Hospital for treatment claiming he was also stabbed. —

Renewing biz permits in Mandaue a breeze

Renewing business permits in Mandaue City can now be done in just 30 minutes instead of the usual 15 days.

The process has been reduced from 17 steps to only four steps which include the application or submission of requirements (barangay clearance and real property tax clearance), assessment, payment, and the release of the permit.

The city government has now provided three Business One Stop Shops (BOSS) located at the second floor of the city hall, at the second floor of Parkmall, and another one at the Bridges Town Square at Plaridel Street near the Marcelo Fernan Bridge.

January 3 to 21 are the days that have been marked for renewing permits while January 31 and henceforth would be the days for securing new business permits.

Mayor Jonas Cortes said this is part of the automation project which will cover not only business permits but also real property taxes which is expected to be fully operational in March this year.

By March, a taxpayer can pay his real property tax and community tax at his barangay hall.

The project is aimed at making government service efficient and graft-free.

It is also one way of thanking the business men for their confidence in the present administration, Cortes said.

At present, many businesses have sprouted in the city especially at the Reclamation Area such as the S & R warehouse.

The Singapore School of Cebu has just broke ground.

The J Mall Complex in barangay Bakilid is set to be operational in the middle of this year while the Colonnade chain of stores is also expected to construct a new branch near the new city public market.

Robinson's, on the other, is expected to put up business now that it has purchased a lot in front of the Cortes Hospital. — (FREEMAN)
