Diarrhea cases reported in Catmon

- Mylen P. Manto -

CEBU, Philippines - The Integrated Provincial Health Office (Ipho) listed eight cases of diarrhea in Catmon, northern Cebu.

Provincial Health officer Dr. Cristina Giango said the eight patients were admitted at the Sogod District Hospital after suffering from dehydration.

The patients were admitted last Tuesday and Wednesday, and there were no new cases reported yesterday.

Giango sent a team to sitio Lapalaya, Macaas, Catmon to check the patients and the surroundings where they live. She said they already got water samples from the place.

The residents get their water from a spring, which was found positive of bacteria.

Giango said the residents should always put chlorine in their water or boil these to diarrhea. She added that if possible, people should use mineral water.

Also, Giango stressed the need for people to maintain cleanliness of their surroundings to avoid contamination of their water source.

She said the patients are now recovering from dehydration after being attended to by doctors.

Giango said they already reported the incident to the Department of Health (DOH).

Earlier, contaminated water sources were also reported as the cause of diarrhea cases in Danao City and the outbreak of typhoid fever in Alegria, which registered more than 720 patients. —  (FREEMAN)
