Archdiocese open to talks with environmental group

- Ryan Christopher J. Sorote -

CEBU, Philippines - After the Cebu Alliance for Governance on Health and the Environments asked the Church’s help in their advocacy, Cebu Archdiocese spokesman Msgr. Achilles Dakay said they are open for talks.

Dakay said they are open to any request the group will be asking of them, but he said they should first wait for the installation of the new Archbishop of Cebu, Bishop Jose Palma, next year.

He also said that they can release a pastoral letter if they can finalize their plans on future talks between CAGHE and the diocese.

The promise came after CAGHE, a newly formed group, announced that they will be asking the help of the Archdiocese in advancing their advocacy of good environmental governance in the province.

With 35-member organizations across different sectors, CAGHE, through Vince Cinches, executive director of the Central Visayas Fisheries Development Center, Inc., said that they will present a letter to Palma airing all of their concerns on the impending operation of coal plants in the province.

Cinches is optimistic that Palma will respond positively to their request. (FREEMAN)
