CEBU, Philippines - Governor Gwendolyn Garcia yesterday lauded the partnership forged by a private firm and Consolacion town for the establishment of a sanitary landfill.
Garcia issued the statement during the signing of the memorandum of agreement yesterday between the municipal government of Consolacion and the Manila-based company Asian Energy Systems Corporation.
Before the signing, the facility in barangay Polog was inaugurated and by next year, it can accommodate garbage from the town.
Garcia said the provincial government had wanted to establish a similar facility but never came to putting it up because of problems.
Garcia said the establishment of the facility in Consolacion is the answer to the problem of every local government unit.
Mayor Teresa Alegado, on the other hand, said the municipal government will benefit from it.
Aside from addressing the garbage problem, the facility will also produce power.
The Asian Energy Systems Corporation was represented by its president, Cipriano Abdon while Mayor Teresa Alegado of Consolacion signed the agreement. Governor Garcia witnessed the signing.
The Municipal Government of Consolacion will host the facility in sitio Manayataya in barangay Polog.
The Management of Asian Energy Systems Corporation said facility will comply with the provision of Republic Act 9003, otherwise known as the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000.
Moreover, the company shall set up a waste-to-energy facility in the landfill.
The agreement further states that the town will utilize the facility for all the garbage and other solid wastes, except hazardous wastes.
Further, once the facility shall have been constructed and is completely operational, it would accommodate a substantial volume of garbage.
The municipality allows the company to negotiate and accommodate garbage from adjoining towns and cities as well as private entities, within the province of Cebu. (THE FREEMAN)
