Date turns bloody for lovers

- Ria Mae Y. Booc -

CEBU, Philippines - What was supposed to be a romantic afternoon for two lovers ended bloody when a still unidentified man attacked them with a knife at the airport in San Francisco town in Camotes island last Sunday afternoon.

Allan Barcenas, 24, died due to a wound on his chest while his 17-year-old partner sustained a stab wound on her left back. The FREEMAN is withholding the name of the girl because of her minority.

The girl is now recuperating at the Ricardo Maningo Memorial Hospitial.

PO2 Luifran Plaza of the San Francisco Police told The FREEMAN that the two were traveling on board Barcenas’ motorcycle when the latter received a text message, which prompted him to stop the vehicle at the airport road.

The road in the airport they were taking is a shortcut from Barangay Esperanza to Barangay Monte Alegre.

Suddenly, the suspect reportedly appeared behind them and stabbed the girl first on the back. The suspect then turned to Barcenas and stabbed him on the chest before fleeing.

Because of fear, the two victims ran towards different directions – Barcenas towards sitio Talisay in Northern Poblacion where he managed to call for help while the girl hid at a grassy portion in the area.

“Sa kahadlok, diha ra ang babaye sa kasagbutan nitago,” Plaza told The FREEMAN.

Bystanders immediately brought Barcenas to the hospital when he collapsed on the road. He died an hour later. It took 20 minutes for responding policemen to find the girl.

Plaza said a follow-up operation is being conducted to arrest the suspect. (THE FREEMAN)
