Greg blows top over nameplate

-

CEBU, Philippines - Cebu Vice Governor Gregorio Sanchez Jr. yesterday blew his top, accused the Provincial Board secretariat of wanting to replace him, because of the wrong nameplate placed on the presiding officer’s table at the session hall.

Sanchez felt slighted when he noticed PB Member Agnes Magpale’s nameplate on his desk when he arrived at the session hall. Magpale is the board’s presiding officer pro-tempore.

Sanchez got mad at Provincial Secretary Aniceta Pasaylo when he saw her staff removing the nameplate on the table upon his arrival.

Sanchez also noticed Magpale’s copy of the PB internal house rules on the presiding officer’s table.

Pasaylo immediately apologized to Sanchez saying it was not intentionally done. However, Sanchez demanded a written explanation from Pasaylo.

“The secretariat here might want the presiding officer be replaced,” Sanchez said.

Magpale explained that her nameplate was not removed since she presided the last session after Sanchez excused himself during the approval of the 2011 annual budget.

She admitted that she just left her folders on the presiding officer’s table after the last session and did not know if her staff or the secretariat has keep it.

Sanchez is observed to have been irritable since he feels being useless after Governor Gwendolyn Garcia slashed his budget by 61-percent.

The governor also took all the delegated functions to him such as appointing the staff of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan and the disbursement of Legislative Assistance Fund. Garcia earlier said that as vice governor, Sanchez only presides the PB session and to assume the office the governor in case of vacancy or if the governor is out of the country. (THE FREEMAN)
