Burglary in Cebu City and Barili

CEBU, Philippines - A couple lost P2 million worth of jewelry to unidentified suspects who burglarized their house in Doña Rita Village in Barangay Banilad yesterday.

Police surmise the burglars entered the house at dawn when the owners were sound asleep. Couple Pedro and Cathy Delantar discovered the items missing only at 6am.

Pedro said he lost his Rolex wristwatch worth P500,000; another Rolex Federrer version wristwatch worth P520,000; a Muller wristwatch worth P300,000 and an Armani wristwatch worth P80,000.

Cathy also claimed that she lost a Rolex watch studded with gold and diamonds worth P600,000 and a 5 karat diamond ring worth P250,000. She also lost a shoulder bag containing her Nokia cellphone worth P12,000; a Canon digital camera worth P15,000; her non-professional driver’s license, BDO master card and BDO Visa card.

On the spot investigation conducted by operatives of the city police theft and robbery section showed that the suspects entered the house by scaling the wall towards the terrace, as manifested by footprints on the wall itself.

Police believe the burglars sprayed some chemical on the victims considering that the presence of the burglars did not wake them up.

Meanwhile, in Barili town, burglars took P100,000 worth of jewelry, P30,000 cash, and a telescope worth P20,000 from the house of Josephine Mercado, 42, in Barangay Poblacion early dawn yesterday.

Police said the suspects entered the house by destroying the lock of a window at the second floor.

PO3 Job Sarveda, duty desk officer of the Barili Police said witnesses have pointed to a certain Jomer Cañete, 25, a resident of Barangay Santa Ana as one of the suspects.

The bag containing the money was placed in the dining room. (FREEMAN)
