1 dead, 8 others injured in Catmon road accident three people injured in Cebu City road mishap
CEBU, Philippines - A nun died while eight other people were hurt when a Rough Rider bus rammed into a multicab on the national highway in the northern town of Catmon last Thursday afternoon.
Editha Villafuerte of the Nun Passionist School was declared dead on arrival at the Danao City District Hospital. She suffered major injuries when trapped inside the multicab.
The multicab bearing plate number GWN 309 driven by Teodulo Cape Jr., 53, was about to unload its passengers in barangay Catmon Daan when rammed by the bus past 3pm. The bus was bound for Cebu City and was reportedly traveling at high speed. The bus reportedly wanted to take over the multicab, but failed to do so and instead rammed into the smaller vehicle.
The multicab turned turtle three times and trapped Villafuerte inside.
“Iya na lang gidasmagan ang multicab kay naalanganin na siguro siya,” SPO3 Boto told The FREEMAN in a phone interview.
Passengers who sustained minor injuries were Judith Baylon, 53; Lester Molde, 16, Donald Butaya, 16; Reymundo Sabal, 45; Ares Alfonsa, 32; and Arlene de los Santos, 39. Another passenger, Lured Marie Yray, 17, sustained a major fracture on her right arm. Cape himself sustained minor injuries.
The victims were rushed to Danao City District Hospital and were eventually transferred to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC).
Boto said they are yet to identify the driver of the bus who immediately fled.
“We will let the operator and the driver of the bus appear in our station for the investigation,” he said.
A case of reckless imprudence resulting to homicide will be filed against the driver if he will be proven liable.
Meanwhile, at least three people were injured after a passenger jeepney and a multicab driven by a retired police officer collided at the corner of Osmeña Boulevard and Sanciangko Streets early morning yesterday.
The jeepney, driven by Anecito Suillo, was travelling from Barangay Capitol Site towards the Carbon Market when it tried to beat the yellow light at the corner of Osmeña Boulevard and Sanciangko Streets.
In doing so, the jeepney hit the side of the multicab driven by Jun dela Victoria, a retired policeman. In an interview over dyHP, Dela Victoria said the accident left an injury on the face.
Two passengers, one of whom is 74 years old, also sustained injuries. The 74-year-old woman was brought to the Cebu City Medical Center by personnel of the Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation.
Suillo is now behind bars and awaiting appropriate charges. (FREEMAN)
