Kasambagan beautician electrocuted

- Niña G. Sumacot-Abenoja -

CEBU, Philippines - A male beautician was electrocuted in a dark area of a building in Barangay Kasambagan at 1 a.m. yesterday.

The victim, Jundell Loayun, 23, of Barangay Tisa, was allegedly in the area with a companion, Floreano Opuran, 20.

Opuran told the police that he and the victim both agreed to go inside the dark basement/parking site of a newly-constructed building located at corner J. Panes and St. Michael streets purposely to have sex.

SPO4 Alex Dacua of the Homicide Section said that as the two were about to enter the basement, the victim, who was walking a few feet away from Opuran, suddenly slumped to the ground then wriggled.

Opuran sought assistance from the people nearby.

Roy Tampus, 30, a jeepney conductor, immediately called the Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation (ERUF), who upon arrival at the area, saw Loayun lying on his back and was already dead.

The paramedics found burns on the fatality’s left lower arm, left wrist, and head.

Dacua said the victim accidentally touched the wooden barricade, with bronze wires attached to it, at the entrance of the basement. The bronze wires were connected to a live wire at the side of the building.

Dacua further said that with the fatal barricades, residents in the area have been aware that it is prohibited to enter the privately-owned building, a thing the victim apparently had no knowledge of.

The investigator added they will be asking the prosecutor’s office if the owner of the building has liability on the incident considering that the electric wires were intentionally placed in the area.

The cadaver of the victim was taken to San Fernando Funeral Homes for post mortem examination. (THE FREEMAN)
