Jeepney driver assaulted by Lapu-Lapu traffic enforcers?
CEBU, Philippines - A jeepney driver, who claims to have been attacked by traffic enforcers, has asked the police and the head of the City Traffic Management Services (CTMS) of Lapu-Lapu City that all traffic enforcers be presented before him for identification purposes.
Felix Aquia, 53, of barangay Bangkal, Lapu-lapu city filed a complaint in the Lapu-Lapu City Traffic division yesterday morning alleging that four unidentified traffic enforcers ganged up on him at around 9 p.m. last Friday evening after reaching the Mandaue-Mactan Bridge's intersection in barangay Pajo.
Aquia, who drives a Cordova-MEPZA route jeepney, said that night four traffic enforcers blocked his jeepney's path prompting him to stop, and then they took turns in hitting him while he was seated on the driver's seat.
He said he sustained contusions on his lower lip and neck.
While being hit, he loosened his pressure on the clutch, which in the process started his jeepney to move and hit a private car.
Aquia said he also wants the owner of the private car to file a complaint so he could also settle the problem.
Aquia alleged he was mauled for unknown reasons but some traffic enforcers have alleged that while he was driving that night, he almost hit a commuter, but instead of stopping, he sped away.
A traffic enforcer sought assistance.
Half a kilometer away, another traffic enforcer tried to stop him but Aquia allegedly went on his way.
It was the third attempt by traffic enforcers that finally stopped his car.
Aquia was advised to secure a medical certificate and told to complain to CTMS head Frank Brazil so a line-up of CTMS traffic enforcers can be arranged. (FREEMAN)
