CEBU, Philippines – One Cebu Party led by Governor Gwendolyn Garcia has already picked its candidates for the Federation of Association of Barangay Councils (FABC) and the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) in the Province of Cebu.
The FABC will have its elections on December 17 while the SK will elect a president today.
"Of course it's Joeyboy Holganza," Garcia told reporters after meeting ABC presidents coming from different component cities and municipalities at the Cebu International Convention Center yesterday.
Garcia is referring to the incumbent FABC President Ribomapil "Joeyboy" Holganza, Jr. who has been sitting as ex-officio member of the Provincial Board since July this year.
Holganza was vice president of the federation and has continued the term of then PB Member Teresita Celis after her election as mayor in Boljoon last May.
"I am supporting the general consensus," Garcia said. The meeting was attended by 42 out of 51 ABC presidents in the province.
Holganza may be unopposed during their election as the opposition camp led by Vice Governor Gregorio Sanchez, Jr. doesn't have any bet.
Sanchez said that his group is not doing anything to get the ABC presidency as well as that of the SK.
Although Garcia did not name her bet for the SK Federation, she said, "Ako sad suportahan ang ilang suportahan. Sa ABC north, sa SK sa south na pud." (I'm going to support whoever is endorsed by the group. We have the ABC from the north so the SK should come from the south.)
Aladin Willyamie Caminero, SK Federation president of Argao and son of PB member Wilfredo Caminero, is being floated to replace PB Member Bea Mercede Calderon.
Like Holganza, Caminero is also a staunch ally and supporter of Garcia. Garcia earlier said she is not imposing her personal choice but she wants somebody who has a good track record, the potential to lead the federation and the dedication to support her 12-point agenda.
Holganza was also reelected barangay captain in Bawod, Bantayan and was unopposed during the election in the municipal ABC last Tuesday.
Holganza served as PB member during the term of former governor Lito Osmeña when the PB members were elected at large in the entire province, unlike now when they are elected by congressional district.
The young Caminero is currently studying at the University of San Carlos in Cebu City taking up Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. (FREEMAN)
