Garcia inaugurates Barili water system
CEBU, Philippines – Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia led in the inauguration of the newly interconnected water system in the municipality of Barili last Friday.
The inauguration signaled the end of the problem of some of the town's barangays, which are suffering from shortage of water for many years.
Before the interconnected system was built, water supply in those areas was limited to two to three hours a day.
"The municipality of Barili is gifted with numerous natural spring waters. Ironically the Poblacion area and nearby barangays of Maghanoy, Maigang, Sta. Ana and San Rafael, suffered shortage of water supply for many years," said Mayor Teresito Mariñas.
Under his initiative, Mariñas went to Garcia's office to ask for assistance for the project. Garcia then gave P6 million.
The town's human resource management officer, Aniceto Mariñas, said the under project, a piping from the source to the Poblacion area and the construction of a reservoir in sitio Cantabo in barangay Gunting were implemented.
"With the interconnection of the Luhod water system to the Australian-sponsored Bolocboloc and Mantayupan water systems, it's currently a twenty four-hour service for barangay Poblacion and some nearby barangays," he said. (FREEMAN)
