Jonas' former secretary wins ABC presidency
CEBU, Philippines – As expected, barangay Subangdaku captain Ernie Manatad won in yesterday's Association of Barangay Captain (ABC) election.
Manatad, who was the former secretary of Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes, won after none of the 26 other barangay captains in the city sought the ABC presidency.
Manatad served Cortes as his secretary for ten years while Cortes was still a city councilor.
Yesterday's registration started at 9 a.m. while the election started at 10:15 a.m. It ended five minutes before 11 a.m.
Labogon barangay captain Damaso Tumulak, who was sick, failed to vote while another barangay captain abstained from voting.
Manatad got 25 votes.
Barangay Ibabao-Estancia captain Carmelino del Mar was elected vice president with 25 votes while Felix Suico the barangay of Tabok won as auditor with 25 votes.
Elected board of directors were Vicente Dayanan of Basak with 25 votes, Dioniso Villamor of Bakilid, 25 votes, Florello Latonio of barangay Centro, 25 votes, Nelson Rubio of Labogon, 25 votes, Mylene Sanchez of Alang-alang, 25 votes, Dianne Abanes of Banilad, 25 votes, Leo Kabas of Canduman, 25 votes, and Malaquias Soco of Paknaan, 23 votes.
The newly elected officers appointed a treasurer, secretary, and PRO from the roster of newly elected board of directors. (FREEMAN)
