Guard foils robbery, injured in shootout

-

CEBU, Philippines – A security guard was injured after shooting it out with two suspected robbers who attempted to rob a gas station in Barangay Langtad, Naga Wednesday night.

Armando Caliao sustained gunshot wound in his left chest after one of the unidentified robbers fired at him.

Caliao first noticed the suspected robbers on board a black Honda XRM motorcycle, which was parked few meters away from the gas station. The guard tried to approach them because they were acting suspiciously but he was immediately shot.

Despite having wounded, Caliao was able to return fire using his 9mm service pistol and hit one of the suspects.

The suspect however still managed to board the motorcycle and fled. The police recovered from the crime scene two live ammunitions and one deformed slug of caliber .45, four empty shells of caliber .45 and nine live ammunitions of 9mm pistol used by Caliao.

Cebu Provincial Police Office Director Erson Digal directed his intelligence operatives to assist the Naga Police Station in their follow up operation and to monitor the nearby hospitals and clinics.

"Gipa-monitor nako ang hospitals basin naay nagpatambal nga napusilan," he said.

Meanwhile, a man was injured after he was shot by an official of the Special Weapons and Tactics Team in Lapu-Lapu City.

Feliciano Malingin, 34, was shot by Senior Insp. Joeson Parallag for allegedly trying to prevent the service of the warrant of arrest for murder against two of his pals.

Malingin sustained injuries on his right hand and in the stomach. The Lapu-Lapu City Police led by SPO3 Remegio Ngujo asked for SWAT back-up yesterday dawn because they will serve the warrants of arrest against Rodney Cabahug and Glenn Codinera in Sitio Mahayahay, Barangay Bangkal, Lapu-Lapu City.

However, Malingin reportedly tried to block the service of the warrant by trying to pull a .38 revolver prompting Parallag to shoot him.

The subjects of the warrants however were arrested and are now detained at the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office. - Ria Mae Y. Booc and Flor Z. Perolina/FPL (FREEMAN)
