Yody still going for ABC prexy

- Garry B. Lao -

CEBU, Philippines – Busay Barangay Captain Eliodoro "Yody" Sanchez and his group yesterday expressed disappointment over Rep. Tomas Osmeña's endorsement of either of his two opponents in the race for the presidency of the Association of Barangay Council (ABC).

"I'm a little bit disappointed," Sanchez told The Freeman.

He admitted that the former mayor's announcement will deliver votes especially from BOPK allies who are still undecided.

In an exclusive interview with The Freeman last Wednesday, the former mayor said that he will be endorsing either T. Padilla Barangay Captain Michael Ralota or Capitol Site Barangay Captain Manuel Guanzon.

Osmeña had started his text survey which will guide him on who to endorse for the post.

Sanchez is still hoping that the former mayor will not endorse anyone and declare the December 7-ABC elections as a "free-zone".

But if Osmeña pushes through with endorsing either Guanzon or Ralota, Sanchez would still run for the post.

"Win or lose, I will run. I know I am sincere and capable in handling the affairs of the ABC," Sanchez added.

Basak San Nicolas Barangay Captain George Rama, the campaign manager of Sanchez, said he has no ill feelings against Osmeña, adding that he respects the opinion of the former mayor.

Rama is challenging Ralota and Guanzon to be "man enough" to seek the ABC presidency without banking on the endorsement of Osmeña. Rama believes that the two would not be able to manage the ABC well because of their businesses.

Rama said it will be conflict of interest on the part of Guanzon being a contractor, who supplies and delivers projects in the city and some barangays. Ralota, according to Rama, is busy being an architect whose projects are in Luzon and Mindanao.

"Ang importante nga modagan ka nga dili magsalig og endorsement gikan sa mga senior leaders sa BOPK. Campaign at your own because you are using our leaders at your own personal interest," Rama said.

In a separate interview with the reporters, Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama said he will not meddle in the ABC elections.

"I will not be meddling and I want the barangay captains to make their own choice," Rama said. (FREEMAN)
