Man accuses rob suspect of shooting him

- Flor Z. Perolina -

CEBU, Philippines - One of the two robbery suspects arrested Sunday by the Investigative and Detective Management Bureau of the Mandaue City Police Office for the shooting of another robbery suspect was also involved in another shooting incident Saturday.

Dexler Seno, 31, single, and a resident of barangay Basak, Mandaue City went to the police yesterday morning to say Rolando Basirgo Jr. as shot him while he was in barangay Tawason at around 1 p.m. Saturday.

Basirgo Jr. is presently detained at the Canduman police station.

He and Benjamin Ycong were arrested Saturday evening after the live-in partner of another robbery suspect whom the two men allegedly shot told police Friday night the men were also involved in several robberies in Metro Cebu.

Drexel Seno, who was just discharged from the North General Hospital after he was shot in the abdomen last Nov. 10, has positively identified Basirgo Jr. as the passenger of another motorcycle that blocked his way while on his way to barangay Tawason.

PO2 Marvin Figarido of the Canduman Police station advised Seno to return to the police station today so he could file a case against him.

IDMB chief Ramil Morpos said the involvement of both Seno and Basirgo is yet to be established.

Records show Seno was released from jail recently for his alleged involvement in a carnapping case in 2005.

Morpos said Seno denied they know each other.

Both Basirgo and Ycong were arrested after Erwin Bernard Macasaet's live-in partner told police that the night before her partner was gunned down, he had told her that he, Ycong, and Basirgo were on their way to rob an Internet café in barangay Cubacub.

However, the robbery did not push through after Macasaet and the other two argued over how the loot was to be divided.

Basirgo and Ycong reportedly took Macasaet to barangay Tawason where they allegedly killed him.

The live-in partner also told police that Macasaet is wanted in his hometown in Bukidnon and figured in several robberies in Cebu City, Mandaue City, and Lapu-Lapu City.

Last Saturday, Ycong was arrested at around 8 p.m. in sitio Boljo, barangay San Jose , Cebu City while Basirgo was arrested in Purok 5, barangay San Jose, at around 10:30 p.m.

Police said Ycong helped notorious drug pusher and robbery group leader Joel "Tongol" Nodalo escape from the Bagong Buhay Rehabilitation Center in 2003.

He was also arrested in 2009 for illegal possession of firearm.   Ycong was also positively identified as one of the three suspects who robbed Boston Hardware in barangay Banilad, Mandaue City, last October 30.

A witness has claimed seeing Ycong and two other men put on bonnets shortly before the hardware was robbed.

A woman who went to see Ycong at the Subangdaku police station yesterday afternoon also positively identified him as the man who took her bag containing P500 and a Nokia cellular phone while she was walking along Plaridel Street in barangay Looc, Mandaue City, last Friday.

But Ycong said he only operated in Cebu City.

Basirgo also denied being involved in robberies but admitted to have killed Macasaet.

Basirgo was just released from jail after a murder case filed against him was dismissed. (THE FREEMAN)
