Taxi hits, kills elderly woman
CEBU, Philippines - A 60-year-old woman, who was hit by a speeding taxi while she was crossing Plaridel Street Saturday evening, died a few minutes after she was taken to the hospital.
Mercedes Baclohan, 60, of barangay Umapad, Mandaue City sustained fractured bones.
The erring taxi was identified as Yellow Cab Taxi with plate No. GXK -776, driven by Elicerio Lamberte, of barangay Mabolo, Cebu City.
Lamberte said he did not notice Baclohan crossing the street, because his vision was temporarily obscured by a vehicle in front of him.
He said he did not stop after hitting the woman for fear of being beaten by bystanders but gave himself up to the Lapu-Lapu City police station.
Lamberte is detained at the Opao police station pending the filing of charges against him. (FREEMAN NEWS)
