Lapu-Lapu's tourism chief thinks highly of resort hotels

- Jose P. Sollano -

CEBU, Philippines – Former Lapu-Lapu City Councilor Damian Gomez Jr. yesterday said the inclusion of two Lapu-Lapu resorts in the top 20 resorts in Asia will boost the city's tourism industry.

Gomez, who is now the chairman of the Lapu-Lapu City Tourism and Historical Commission, said the city will benefit from the success of Shangri-La's Mactan Resort and Spa which is ranked number 14 with 83.2 points while Plantation Bay Resort and Spa is ranked number 15 with a rating of 82.6 percent.

The world's best resort, the four Seasons Tented Camp Golden Triangle, is in Chiang Rai, Thailand with a perfect score of 100.

Gomez said the world has spoken, Lapu-Lapu City is indeed home to some of the best resorts in the world.

Gomez said the present administration of Mayor Paz Radaza is focused on cementing Lapu-Lapu's foothold as a prime tourist destination.

Mayor Radaza, in her speech during the launching of "Island Experience" has promised to emulate the five star quality service the tourism industry is known for.

Radaza's administration wants to inculcate the culture of service and the culture of tourism into its constituency just what Shangri-La and Plantation Bay are doing to its staff, Gomez said.

Lapu-Lapu, through the tourism commission, will continue to partner with the business sector to achieve its goal as a prime tourism destination and in creating tourism oriented mindset among its residents, Gomez said. (FREEMAN)
