Digal expresses concern over unguarded banks

CEBU, Philippines – Cebu Provincial Police Office Director Police Senior Superintendent Erson Digal is worried over the fact that some guards in the province do not have security guards.

Digal is concerned since the police usually gets the blame whenever an establishment is robbed.

Right after the series of robberies in Mandaue City, Digal immediately called the attention of the chiefs of police in the various cities and municipalities to provide personnel near banks and large establishments in their areas of responsibility.

Just days ago, a robbery incident was reported in a firm along Plaridel St. in Barangay Umapad, Mandaue City. The furniture design firm iSource Inc. was reportedly burglarized by two men who took P250,000 and hogtied marketing officer Gia Oblina.

It was the fourth robbery in the city where burglars took a large amount of money.

Digal already tightened the security in the provinces two days before All Saints' Day.

He said that while he was roving around the province during the holiday some banks do not have a standby guard, which could attract burglars.

"I already reminded some bank owners during the Cebu Bankers Club meeting that they should have a guard or guards that can look after their establishment," he said.

He also advices that aside from the security guard, each establishment must have close circuit television cameras and an alarm device connected to the police office for immediate response to any emergency.

Meanwhile, Digal described the holiday as peaceful despite the five-hour black-out that hit the three-town Bantayan Island. (FREEMAN)
