CEBU, Philippines – An incumbent barangay councilman died after falling off from a multicab in a vehicular accident in Barangay Guibuangan, Barili, Cebu last Friday night.
The fatality was identified as Felix Aguilar, 57, Barangay Sayaw councilman.
He was seeking re-election in today's barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections.
Sr. Insp. Marlon Gumabao, chief of Barili Police Station, said Aguilar was riding at the back of a box type Isuzu multicab with plate numbers YBU-234 and was driven by his relative, Romeo Bayno, 43.
He was with other people at the back of the cab on their way to Barangay Nasipit for personal purposes. But when they reached Barangay Guibuangan, the lock connecting the cab's barrier to the head part was suddenly gave way.
Aguilar was sitting on top of that part of the muticab so he was thrown on the pavement.
His companions tried to prevent him from falling but were too late to rescue him.
The victim fell on the concrete road and sustained fractures and severe injuries to his head and body.
He was rushed to the Barili District Hospital and was referred to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center but he died along the way. (FREEMAN)
