CEBU, Philippines - Three women and a man were injured when a Toyota Innova bumped with a motorcycle along the Lusapon Bridge in Natalio Bacalso Highway, Barangay Lower Beccerril, Boljoon.
The accident happened last Friday afternoon.
The Toyota Innova, driven by Anthony Licardo Dungog of C. Explorer Water Sports Inc., was bound for Santander from Cebu City.
The red Honda XRM motorcycle, driven by Jenefer Alsola Cardente, was moving towards the direction of Cebu City.
Cardente, 26, of Barangay San Antonio, had two backriders Manuela Olores Roma, 42, and Junalyn Olores Romeo, 17.
Investigation showed that the motorcycle was tailing a Ceres Bus when the accident occurred. The motorcycle driver told the police he saw the Toyota moving at them in a zigzag manner.
The Toyota was allegedly encroaching on the other lane. Its driver told the police that he was doing this to avoid the teachers and students who were walking beside the road.
He said he applied his brakes to avoid the crash.
SPO4 Cristino Uraca, deputy police chief of Boljoon, said that the skid marks of the Toyota would show that its driver may have applied the brakes too late because the marks were not long.
As a result, the two vehicles crashed, throwing the motorcycle driver six meters away. One of his backrider was pinned down by the motorcycle. The three were not wearing protective helmets.
They were taken to the Oslob District Hospital but were eventually transferred to a private hospital in Cebu City because the injuries they sustained were severe.
Dungog, the driver of the Toyota, surrendered to the police and is now detained. Representatives of his company, however, already went to the hospital to attend to the needs of the victims.
The motorcycle belongs to Peter Olores, the barangay captain of San Antonio. The two women-victims are his relatives. (FREEMAN NEWS)
