CEBU, Philippines - Governor Gwendolyn Garcia reminded Daanbantayan Mayor Ma. Luisa Loot that barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections are non-partisan exercises.
This after Loot accused Garcia of supporting candidates who are local leaders of the Liberal Party against her own candidates who have helped their campaign in the last elections.
Garcia said, as politician and elected official, Loot should know that barangay and SK elections are non-partisan. In an earlier interview over DyDD Bantay Radyo Loot said Garcia is supporting their opponents in the last May 10 elections.
Garcia and Loot are political allies during the last elections until the recent fallout because of the latter’s failure to join the Pasigarbo sa Sugbo in August.
According to Loot, opposition barangay candidates are bringing the governor’s name and make people believe they have the support and endorsement.
One of those is former town councilor Hiram Benatiro who is running for barangay captain of Tapilon against Loot’s candidate, Arturo Conejos.
Loot however said Garcia is not a threat to her candidates in Daanbantayan because the latter did not win in her town during the last elections. Garcia lost to Hilario Davide III in Daanbantayan. (THE FREEMAN NEWS)
