Man kills stepson for losing in fistfight
CEBU, Philippines – A man stabbed his stepson to death after he lost in a fistfight following a heated argument in Barangay Dapitan, Cordova town Wednesday afternoon.
Arvin Manayon, 23, who worked as bagger for La Nueva Supermart in Poblacion, Lapu-Lapu City was declared dead on arrival at the Lapu-Lapu City District Hospital due to fatal stab wound he sustained on the left side of his body.
The suspect, Dante Silades, 47, live-in partner of the victim's mother, Yolanda Manayon, voluntarily surrendered to their neighbor, retired Police Chief Insp. Jovino Baguio, right after the incident. He was then turned over to Cordova Police Station for detention and filing of charges in court.
Alejandra Manayon, aunt of the victim, said she will push through with the filing of criminal case against Silades because she wants justice for her nephew.
"Ganahan unta ko tibuok kinabuhi mapriso kay naluoy ko nagtanaw sa akong pag-umangkon nga natuhog sa sundang. Diri gud ni nako nagdako," she told The FREEMAN.
Silades, a carpenter and native of Sitio Dinagat, Albor, Surigao City, has been living together with the victim's mother for 13 years and they have two children. Arvin has been living with his aunt after his mother decided to live together with the suspect.
PO2 Manfred Maarat of Cordova Police Station said that before the incident, the victim told his step brother, a grade three pupil of Pilipog Elementary School, to go to class but Silades allegedly opposed, saying he wanted his son to stay and help him do carpentry.
A heated argument then erupted between Silades and Arvin that resulted in a fistfight. However, after he was defeated, the suspect allegedly hurriedly went inside the house and came back with a 13-inch bolo and stabbed the victim on the side of his body.
Some residents who witnessed the incident told police that the victim was still able to run away from the suspect but collapsed several meters away.
"Hangtod ron wa magpakita ang inahan kay gipahibaw na to namo, kini rang iyaan naa diri disidido mokiha," Maarat said. (FREEMAN)
