Coops in Lapu-Lapu to hold 3-day fiesta

CEBU, Philippines – Cooperatives in Lapu-Lapu will hold a caravan, fun-run, and livelihood skills from October 15 to17.

Jimmy Glomar of the Lapu-Lapu City Cooperative and Livelihood Resource Center said these three-day activities aim to promote and generate public attention and participation through the assistance of concerned media.

He said more than 100 cooperatives are registered with the Cooperative Development Administration but only 42 cooperatives actively participate in activities.

He said the gathering also aims to inform the public that the city of Lapu-lapu has development programs and services that address the needs of cooperatives.

It also aims to provide additional knowledge on the importance and valuable roles of cooperatives in family, community and society's development, thus encourage them to support or become members of the existing or new cooperatives.

Glomar has urged members of cooperatives and residents in Lapu-Lapu City to participate in the caravan, fun-run, and livelihood skills training.

Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Paz Radaza supports the programs of the cooperatives in the city.

Glomar, on the other hand, said that these cooperative network caravan also aims to provide additional livelihood skills to participants of the 21 types of training offered for free aimed to augment income and productivity of their families for poverty alleviation strategy of the city. (FREEMAN)
