Rep. Gullas leads switch-on of Carcar's electrification project

-

CEBU, Philippines – First district Rep. Eduardo R. Gullas the other day led the ceremonial switch-on of Carcar City's electrification project, which energizes the rest of the locality's 82 sitios.

The project, which was started last August and completed a day before the 80th birthday of the congressman (Oct. 13), is powered by Cebu Electric Cooperative Inc. (Cebeco).

Gullas provided P20 million for the project.

Also in attendance were Fr. Francisco "Paking" Silva, former presidential adviser on rural electrification, and National Electrification Administration (NEA) head Edita Bueno.

The project, which is under the Cebeco 1 area, has energized 82 sitios of Carcar's 14 barangays, with 41,160 kilometers of wire scattered all over these areas.

The veteran lawmaker is among 111 congressmen from the Visayas and Mindanao who pushed for the amendment of the national budget for next year, which originally does not give a centavo for NEA.

Gullas earlier said that NEA should be given a fair allocation too as there are still many rural areas all over the Visayas and Mindanao that are not yet electrified.

This P2B will "complete" the electrification project of all 42,000 barangays all over these areas including Cebu, he said.

Gullas said that Department of Budget and Management Secretary Rene Almendras has already assured to give P1.3B. And the remaining P700 million will still be sourced out during next weekend's break, he said. (FREEMAN)
