Parents of dengue victims form group
CEBU, Philippines – Parents, relatives, friends of dengue victims in Cebu City and Metro Cebu has banded together and launched a massive education campaign to educate the public about the dengue disease.
Businessman Bing Galang, a resident of Talisay City said that when his two children were hospitalized for dengue, he decided to initiate a campaign that would inform the people about the deadly disease.
After barangay Tejero in Cebu City, Galang said his group will visit in some barangays in Talisay and other cities and municipalities.
Parents of dengue victims in Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu Cities have promised to join the campaign.
Galang who uses his personal money in the campaign said he was happy with the support of some friends.
"Nakita nako nga usa ra gayud sa mga paagi nga malikay ang matag usa sa sakit nga dengue, mao ang pagpanglimpyo sa atong palibot," said Galang.
Galang, accompanied by friends and relatives wearing white t-shirts with "Laban Kontra Dengue-Lets Practice Saturday Habit" written on them, visited sitios in barangay Tejero, Cebu City.
Galang said Tejero is very close to him because it is the place where his parents live and where he and his brother and sisters also lived during their younger days.
When Galang got married he moved to Talisay City.
"Diha sa Barangay Tejero nakita nato nga kinahanglan gayud ma educate nato ang mga tawo gumikan kay huot naman kaayo ni nga lugar," said Galang.
Galang said the Department of Health declared barangay Tejero and four other barangays as dengue hot spots.
Other hot spots include Banawa in Guadalupe, Punta Princesa, and Sambag II.
The DOH has also declared a dengue outbreak in six barangays in the city including Apas, Guadalupe, Labangon, Lahug, Talamban, and Tisa. (FREEMAN)
