Carreta moms join synchronized breastfeeding

- Vanessa Barcial/LPM -

CEBU, Philippines – Lactating mothers in Barangay Carreta, Cebu City participated in the Synchronized Breastfeeding Worldwide as one way to promote breastfeeding in the country.

Yesterday's event was under the auspices of the Department of Social Welfare and Development in partnership with the Department of Health, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority and two international organizations.

Synchronized breastfeeding aims to encourage mothers to sustain breastfeeding to educate parents and the public on the benefits of breastfeeding.

It gained popularity in the United States, Canada, and Australia to become a form of celebration during occasions like World Breastfeeding Week.

"Usa pud ni siya sa among way para ma-promote ang breastfeeding through the help of our lactating moms kay sila man ang naka-experience na ani," said Melinda D. Canares, a nutritionist-dietitian of DSWD-7.

About 70 active lactating mothers with infants from 15 days to three years old in Barangay Carreta participated in the event.

While feeding their babies, they recited the Synchronized Breastfeeding Worldwide Prayer. (FREEMAN)
