CEBU, Philippines – The officials of Barangay Bonbon are seeking the approval of the Cebu City council to realign the close to P2 million budget earlier earmarked for various infrastructure projects to finance its road concreting project.
Barangay Captain Alex Ibarita said the residents in the barangay are requesting to prioritize the road concreting over any other infrastructure projects. Since the city government has previously given the barangay P1,268,955 for its cross drainage rehabilitation project, they want the amount to be realigned to fund the road concreting.
On top of it, Bonbon officials are also requesting that the P300,000 previously earmarked for the replacement of the ceiling and fascia board of their barangay hall be realigned for the construction of their water tank.
According to Ibarita, the ceiling and fascia board of their barangay hall have already been replaced through the financial assistance of then Congressman Antonio Cuenco leaving the P300,000 fund free for other use.
"The barangay officials, through the constant request of the constituents, have concurred to give priority to the much needed road concreting works," Ibarita said.
Ibarita said that it is more vital to devote the full amount of P1.2 million for the road concreting.
"The barangay has an immediate need for the fabricated steel stand for the water tank of the barangay to be erected beside the barangay hall," Ibarita added.
Ibarita said the barangay hall needs some repairs and painting works, which are deemed necessary and important for the barangay hall.
Vice Mayor Joy Augutus Young, however, wants the committee on infrastructure to make a report and recommendation about it before the council takes action to the request for realignment of funds to ensure that it is allowed by law. (FREEMAN)
