Mandaue dads suggest building new cemetery
CEBU, Philippines – The Mandaue City council has approved a resolution which requests Mayor Jonas Cortes to purchase two hectares of land that would serve as a public cemetery.
Resolution proponents ABC president Joy Ouano, who sits as an ex-officio member of the city council, and Councilor Jefferson Ceniza said the city's only public cemetery is congested.
In their resolution, the councilors said records at the local civil registrar of the city shows that 1,465 city residents died last year alone and 807 people have died from January this year up to the present.
The resolution said that with the mortality rate, there is now the need for the city to purchase at least two hectares of land which could be used as a public cemetery.
At present, the city has only one public cemetery. Four others are private cemeteries. (FREEMAN)
