1 dies in "gang war"

CEBU, Philippines – One died while eight were seriously injured when members of a suspected gang opened fire on people believed to be identified with a rival gang in sitio Mahusay, barangay Subangdaku, Mandaue City yesterday dawn.

The victims were identified as Renante Cabig, 29, Jomar Dizon, 25, both residents of the place, and Romeo Villaflor, alias "Ronron," 19, of sitio Calderohan, barangay Maguikay, Mandaue City.

Police said the men were sleeping on the veranda at around 2:30 a.m. yesterday when eight men suspected to belong to the Crisp gang opened fire at the sleeping men.

Villaflor sustained the most wounds. He did not reach the Mandaue City Hospital alive.

The police have theorized that the shooting stemmed from the death of a Crisp member who was stabbed.

It has been presumed that the Crisp gang had blamed the death on the Bloods gang. (FREEMAN)
