Jonas issues desist order vs. towing firm

- Flor Z. Perolina -

CEBU, Philippines – Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes has ordered Jadewell Parking Systems Corporation to stop its towing services in the city.

The order came after the Commission on Audit found that despite the notice of expiration of its accreditation granted by the city council, the company has failed to secure a renewal or extension of its accreditation.

COA said without accreditation, any towing is unauthorized.

The company was also ordered to furnish the city within 72 hours with a complete inventory of vehicles towed and stored in its holding area starting from their first year of operation in 2003 up to present and a short summary of the disposition of the impounded vehicles.

Cortes said the inventory should contain the name of the owner, kind of vehicle towed, the date of towing, and cause of apprehension.

Earlier, Cortes has asked the city council to review the existing contract between the city government and Jadewell following numerous complaints against its personnel. (FREEMAN)
