Two dead, 13 injured in two road accidents
CEBU, Philippines – A man died after the motorcycle he was driving collided with a government-owned mini-dump truck in Barangay Candabung, Argao last Saturday night.
Another accident in Mandaue City also killed one and injured 13 people at dawn last Saturday.
Samuel Parantar, 39, a resident of Barangay Binlod, Argao died from head contusions and several bruises in his body.
Investigation showed that the victim was driving a Honda TMX-155 with plate numbers GN-1947 on the way to his house when he rammed on to the truck (SJF-360) driven by Florentino Idias at around 6 p.m.
Idias, who was driving the truck owned by the Municipality of Dalaguete, was on his way to Argao to ferry some soldiers.
He reported seeing the motorcycle traveling in a zigzag motion before ramming the side of the truck he was driving.
After that, Parantar and his motorcycle slid towards the railings of the road.
Parantar was rushed to the Isidro Kintanar Memorial Hospital and was transferred to a hospital in Cebu City but he died on the way there.
The police learned that Parantar came from a fiesta in Barangay Candabong and was drinking with his friends.
His friends prevented him from going home and asked him not to drive his motorcycle as he was already drunk, but Parantar did not listen to them.
The truck driver is now detained while the police are still waiting for any complaint Parantar's family may file against him.
In Mandaue City, a man died while 13 others were wounded after a driver under the influence of alcohol crushed his Toyota Sedan into a fish-container Fuso canter from Pasil, Cebu City.
The accident happened in the lower part of the flyover in M.C. Briones Street, Barangay Maguikay, Mandaue at around 2 a.m. Saturday.
SPO2 Temoteo Quirol of the Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO) traffic division identified the fatality as Crisanto Sanchez, 30, single and a resident of Tabok, Man-daue.
Sanchez was one of the passengers of the Toyota Sedan with plate number GBU 425. Its driver, Eduardo Conde, 25, single of P. del Rosario Street, Cebu was severely wounded and was admitted at a hospital.
Two others who were wounded inside the Toyota Sedan were Rendel Judilla, 20, of Barangay Pagsabungan and Rolly Tresballes, 28, of Barangay Tabok, Mandaue.
The driver of the Fuso canter with plate number GPY 188 was Gregorio Maningo, 52, of Luyang, Carmen. He is currently detained.
Passengers of the Fuso canter who were wounded are Maricris Manalo, 28; Selerio Nino, 38, a resident of Barangay Yati, Liloan; Pepenio Taneo, 40, of Guinsay, Danao; Renter Cuervo, 54; Erlinda Cuba, of Tabok, Maslog Danao; Cahrlito Cuba, 44; Teresita Saunoy, 55, of Tayud, Consolacion; Dondon Florentino, 35, of Jubay, Liloan; Paterno Quelot, 30, a resident of Maslog, Danao; Benben Bequer, 37; and Ricardo Turno, 37, also from Maslog. - Niña G.
