Policemen join cleanup drive in barangay Looc

- Edmund C. Monisit -

CEBU, Philippines – More than a hundred policemen and personnel, picked randomly from six stations in Mandaue City yesterday morning joined "Operation Linis," a cleanup drive aimed at controlling the spread of the dengue disease specifically in barangay Looc.

SPO4 Leandro Cosido of Mandaue City Police Office's Police Community Relations said the cleanup started at 5:00 a.m. and ended at 8:30 a.m. with 147 police personnel taking part.

The cleanup took place in sitios Paradise and Bohol-Bohol.

Cosido said the campaign is also intended to educate households in the sitios on how to combat the spread of the dengue disease, adding that the condition in sitios Paradise and Bohol-Bohol was very discouraging with the presence of piles of garbages.

"Grabe kahugaw ilang lugar. Ang plastic deretso lang og labay sa tubigan kun maghunas magpundo sa dagat", Cosido told The FREEMAN.

Cosido said the campaign was the brainchild of MCPO's acting City Director Noel Gillamac. "Kang Sir Gillamac ning idea nga maghimo aning Operation Linis," said Co-sido.

Gillamac said, "This is to inform the public that dengue is on the rise in these days."

He said they have coordinated with Looc barangay captain Sol Cabahug.

Gillamac said the campaign would improve the relationship in the community between the police and the residents.

Cabahug expressed joy for what the police had done for his barangay.

"Lipay kaayo ko sa gibuhat nila karon kay nakatabang gyud sila pag-edukar sa mga tawo dinhi," Cabahug said.

Gillamac said the campaign would be conducted every 15 days in different barangays in Mandaue with Mantuyong being next on the list.

Free porridge will be served in Mantuyong on the 26th of this month as he marks his birthday. (FREEMAN)
