Local officials' leagues to get P2 million cash aid from Capitol

CEBU, Philippines – Each of the three leagues of local government officials will receive P2 million financial assistance from the provincial government of Cebu which could be used for various infrastructure projects.

Governor Gwendolyn Garcia made the announcement Monday that she is giving financial assistance to the Municipal Mayors League, Vice Mayors League and the Coun-cilors League during the presentation of its new sets of officers at the Capitol Social Hall.

The Governor said the P2 million cash assistance to each of the league can be used for whatever purpose that the leagues' officials want to utilize the money. However, Gar-cia said she would be glad if this will be used for infrastructure projects.

Garcia said in 2007 she also gave assistance to the three leagues but it was only P1 million each. She remembered that her previous assistance was properly utilized espe-cially the VML prompting her to increase the amount this time.

She recalled how the VML helped the provincial government in building school classrooms in Alcantara. Garcia said the province built a three-classroom building in Alcan-tara while the VML built an additional three-classroom building beside it. (FREEMAN)
