Despondent inmate tries to "end" life

CEBU, Philippines – A 23-year-old inmate attempted to end his life by slashing his neck and two arms with a piece of metal with a sharp edge inside the Cebu City Jail in barangay Kaluna-san at dawn yesterday.

Julito Masanero, who has a pending robbery case, appeared downhearted that day. As alleged, his live-in partner, who visits him almost everyday, has not showed up for almost a week now.

At the hospital, Masanero, a resident of Quijano Compound, V. Rama Avenue, Cebu City told police he was depressed.

After slashing himself, Masanero started shaking and caught the attention of the jail guards.

He was taken to the Cebu City Medical Center. He is in stable condition.

Masanero was arrested by Waterfront Police for robbery. This is his third time to be jailed for robbery and snatching cases. (FREEMAN)
