Mother and son indicted for murder

CEBU, Philippines – The Cebu City Prosecutor's Office has indicted a woman and her son of murder for killing their neighbor in Barangay Tisa in May 2009.

Juanita Pason and her son, Jovanie, were accused of killing Robert Jumawan in Sitio Tambisan at 8:40 p.m. on May 15, 2009.

Assistant city prosecutor Anna Lou Fernandez-Cavada found probable cause to elevate the case before the Regional Trial Court wherein the two accused are not al-lowed to post bail after they failed to submit their counter-affidavits.

Cavada said the accused were given ample time to submit evidence for their defense but failed prompting her to resolve the complaint based on the evidence presented by the complainant.

The victim's live-in partner, Jovie Acura, said that Jumawan unintentionally kicked a pail of rain water owned by the accused. Jovanie allegedly got mad and stabbed her live-in partner twice while Juanita held the victim's hair.

After the stabbing the mother and son fled while the victim was rushed to the Cebu City Medical Center where he was declared dead on arrival. (FREEMAN)
