3 die in road mishaps

- Mellanie Joy C. Rosales -

CEBU, Philippines – Two people, one of whom a 16-year-old boy, died after their motorcycles collided with each other in the western town of Barili last Monday night.

The 16-year-old, Louie De Los Reyes, was driving a Honda XRM 125 motorcycle-for-hire with plate number GF 5911 while the other fatality, Farel Joseph Trasmonte, was riding in pillion with two other men on board a Motostar.

The two victims passed away at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center where they were transferred after initial confinement at the Barili District Hospital.

De Los Reyes died due to injury on the head.

Witnesses told police De Los Reyes was reportedly traversing a wrong lane, as he was racing with another motorcycle in F. Paras Street, Barangay Poblacion. He apparently did not notice the motorcycle ridden by Trasmonte, which was driven by one Fedelito Vergara. Another person, Frederick Mendoza, was also on board the motorcycle.

The four were reportedly thrown off the motorcycle upon impact. Vergara and Mendoza themselves sustained serious injuries. The four victims were not wearing helmets at that time.

Meanwhile, in Minglanilla town, a 59-year-old woman also died after a Tamaraw FX rammed into the tricycle she was riding along the national highway evening last Sunday.

Conchita Dayuha, a resident of Barangay Duljo Fatima in Cebu City, and the driver of the tricycle, Ariel Collados, were thrown off the vehicle during impact.

The tricycle was about to cross the national highway when the Toyota Tamaraw FX with plate number GAB 317 driven Armando Nubia Libre hit the vehicle. (FREEMAN)
