Security guard, two other men killed in separate incidents
CEBU, Philippines – Three men, including a security guard, were killed in separate incidents in the city.
Raymund Solon, 44, a security guard detailed at the Cebu Business Park, died at hospital a few minutes after he was allegedly stabbed on the neck by Danilo Carbona, 28, in Kamagong St., Barangay Lahug 1 am yesterday.
PO3 Witzel Berry of the Homicide Section said Solon, who was employed by Probe Security Agency, was roving outside an uptown mall when he saw an apparently drunken man, later identified as Carbona, tearing off the signage nearby.
Berry said the security guard boarded his motorcycle and tailed Carbona until Kamagong St., where both of them reside. He allegedly told Carbona to go home, but Carbona, who was allegedly armed with a knife, stabbed Solon on his neck.
Solon tried to take the weapon from Carbona. However, he was overpowered by Carbona who then took his 9mm service pistol from his waist, and struck his head with it several times.
Solon was taken by some residents to the nearby Perpetual Soccour Hospital but died few minutes later.
Berry said some residents ganged up on Carbona which resulted to his confinement at the Cebu City Medical Center. He was later arrested and is now detained.
On the other hand, Richard Selmontiza, 25, was allegedly shot dead by a lone gunman later identified as Roberto Abuela alias "Ar-ar" in Barangay Duljo-Fatima 4 am yesterday.
Witnesses told police they saw Abuela stopped for a while at the entrance gate of a house and peeked inside an internet café where Selmontiza was playing computer games.
When Selmontiza went outside to buy cigarettes, a successive burst of gunfire was heard.
Selmontiza fell to the ground with gunshot wounds to his head and face while Abuela fled. Five empty shells of 9mm were recovered at the crime scene.
Berry said the motive behind the incident is still unknown. Some neighbors said Selmontiza was a snatcher.
In Upper Yati, barangay Quiot, Randel Abellana, 21, was shot dead by two unidentified men around 7 pm last Sunday.
Investigation showed that the victim had just emerged from his house on the way to barangay Inayawan where he worked as a laborer when he stopped off to mingle with friends. Just then two men approached him and shot him several times.
The perpetrators then walked casually towards the dark portion of the area and disappeared while the victim was rushed by his parents to the CCMC where he was de-clared dead on arrival.
Berry said the motive behind the incident is revenge. (FREEMAN)
