Israeli commando to train provincial police special unit

- Mellanie Joy C. Rosales -

CEBU, Philippines - Two groups of policemen from the Regional Mobile Group (RMG) will be assigned in the Special Reaction Unit (SRU) to be included in the upcoming training refresher course that may possibly be handled by the Israeli commando.

Cebu Provincial Police Office director Erson Digal yesterday said Governor Gwendolyn Garcia has written a letter to the Consulate of Israel requesting if the latter’s commando team can handle the training.

Israeli Ambassador Zvi Vapni responded they are willing to help Cebu anytime.

According to Digal, they need more personnel for the SRU as there are a number of towns in Cebu province, which has 44 municipalities and six component cities that need to be secured.

But he added the 60 personnel that will be placed under the SRU are enough to respond to possible crimes and crisis situations that might happen. The other team will be assigned to the different police stations in the province after they undergo training.

Digal said there is a need for the SRU team to be “high-tech” in order for them to properly perform their duty.

With this, he is grateful to sixth district Rep. Gabriel Luis “Luigi” Quisumbing for visiting the CPPO headquarters recently to know what equipment the police need to improve their service to the public.

Digal is hoping that Quisumbing would help them in the procurement of additional equipment that their special units need in responding to alarms.

Quisumbing said he would present the result of his visit to the police headquarters to the Congress and propose to include the budget for additional equipment during the budget hearing on September 6.

Meanwhile, Digal also thanked the governor for choosing him to sit as director of the provincial police office.

He said he will do his best and will make sure that the people in the province are satisfied with his performance.

Digal revealed Garcia called him the order day to inform him that she already recommended him to the position as provincial police director to the Camp Crame. (THE FREEMAN)
