Fish vendors robbed on board jeepney

- Niña G. Sumacot-Abenoja -

CEBU, Philippines - Three unidentified men robbed jeepney passengers in C. Padilla St., Barangay Duljo-Fatima at around five o’clock in the morning yesterday.

Among the victims were two female fish vendors who were on their way to Barangay Pasil fish market to purchase fish. However, the robbers took their cash including their pieces of jewelry and cellular phones.

In a report over radio DySS, the jeepney was traveling from Barangay Pardo and was bound for Colon St. when three men, one of whom was carrying a pail, flagged down the jeepney and boarded on it.

The one carrying the pail sat at the back of the driver, the other one sat at the middle and the third one at the tail of the jeepney.

Shortly after boarding the jeep, the one sitting near the driver took out a gun, believed to be a revolver, from the pail and declared a hold up.

The passengers were caught off guard, including Eleneth Borces, 41 and Fredeswinda Calagu, 43, both of Pardo.

The robber who sat at the middle took Borces’ P4,600 cash, wristwatch and Samsung cellular phone and also took from Calagu P3,800 cash, a pair of earrings and a cellular phone worth P7,000.

The two fish vendors said some valuables and cash were also taken from the other passengers, including a security guard who was unarmed that time. They said that other passengers who pretended to be sleeping were spared.

The man holding the gun instructed the driver to stop and then they disembarked from the jeepney and disappeared.

The victims, who were advised to report the incident to the police station, believed the robbers live near the place. They said they can identify the robbers if they see them again.  (FREEMAN NEWS)
