Man hits pal with rock

CEBU, Philippines - A construction worker is now in serious condition after he was bludgeoned with a rock by his co-worker after they got into a fight in sitio Sudlon, Barangay Lahug, past 7 p.m. last Thursday.

Gandy Magtanao, 33, sustained severe injuries to the head and other parts of his body after his fellow construction worker identified as Juan Paulo Acaw hit him with a rock after punching him repeatedly.

Investigation showed that the victim and the suspect were attending the inauguration party of a Department of Science and Technology building and were drinking when a heated argument over a personal matter suddenly ensued between them.

PO2 Jodan Batucan of the Homicide Section said the victim threw the first punch before he ran away.

He later stumbled and the alleged assailant scrambled on top of him and punched him several times before picking up a nearby rock and smashing his head.

Batucan said the assailant fled while other construction workers called the Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation who took the victim to the Cebu City Medical Center.

Batucan said that the victim will be subjected to a CT scan.

Aurora Magtanao, the mother of the victim, turned over the rock allegedly used to attack her son to the police. Charges are planned against Acaw, Batucan said.   (FREEMAN)
